New footage shows moment man allegedly opens fire on police helicopter

Two men have been charged over a wild chase through Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, accused of carjacking a woman and stealing multiple firearms.

A PolAir helicopter tracking a stolen silver sedan was suddenly in the line of fire on Friday, when a young man on the run is accused of firing a shot at the aircraft.

The driver then allegedly took off and sped down the wrong side of the road in Noosa, narrowly avoiding head-on collisions.

Police allege that man is 21-year-old Jaylan Walter Jackson and that he later crashed the car in a Noosa Heads backyard.

He is then accused of carjacking a woman nearby, where he was arrested and allegedly found with stolen guns and a large hunting knife. 

Police allege an hour beforehand Jackson drove at police at a Nambour BP, leaving his alleged accomplice behind, 44-year-old Michael John Jackson.

The pair’s alleged spree began earlier in the week, when a white Mitsubishi Triton was stolen from a home in Bli Bli.

That car was allegedly used to steal 10 firearms from a home in Childers on Wednesday, before it was found burnt out at Lake MacDonald on Friday. 

It was there that the pair allegedly stole a silver Nissan Maxima, which was spotted by police in Nambour, which sparked the wild chase.

Both men were charged with 45 offences between them, including serious assault of a police officer.

Both were remanded in custody at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday.

All the stolen firearms have now been located by police.
