Carmody 'turmoil' must end: Palaszczuk

Queensland's premier says the turmoil surrounding the state's embattled chief justice must end.

Tim Carmody has released a public statement declaring he will stand down from the role to quell sour relations within Queensland's judiciary, but he wants the government to embark on a courts reform program as a condition of his departure.

"It is important for the judges to get on with their jobs and administer justice in this state. The turmoil must end. The public demands more," Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in Yeppoon on Monday.
