Cairns man charged over stabbing murder

A far north Queensland man has been charged with murder over the stabbing death of a 53-year-old man in Cairns.

The man died on the way to hospital after police were called to a complex on Winkworth Street in Bungalow on Friday morning.

Four men were later questioned and overnight police charged a 49-year-old local man with murder.

He will appear in Cairns Magistrate Court on Saturday morning.

Police have not revealed whether the other three people questioned will be charged.

It is the second time in less than two years that a man has been found dead at the address.

Police were called to the same building in July 2013 and found the body of a 43-year-old man outside.

That victim had no obvious injuries aside from some swelling to the face.

A 31-year-old man from Atherton was later charged with manslaughter.
