Bushfires threatens central Qld town

Residents in a central Queensland town have been warned to evacuate their properties as a pair of fast-moving bushfires threaten homes.

The two separate fires north of Rockhampton are expected to reach homes on Monday afternoon, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services says.

They issued a watch and act alert for residents in the Mount Chalmers region northeast of the city at 1.20pm and Alton Downs in the northwest at 1.45pm.

"Residents are advised that if their plan is to relocate or they do not have a plan then they are advised to relocate now," QFES said in a statement.

More than 20 crews are fighting to control the blaze at Mount Chalmers.

A third fire broke out north of Maryborough at around 11am, although no properties are under threat.
