Police say a four-month-old baby boy killed in Bundaberg two years ago was shaken.

A 22-year-old man from Bundaberg West was arrested on Sunday and charged with murder (domestic violence) and torture (domestic violence) over the child’s death early in 2024.

Emergency services were called to a home in Bundaberg West on February 26, 2024 and the baby boy was taken by ambulance to Bundaberg Hospital.

The baby was airlifted to the Queensland Children’s Hospital some hours later and died on March 3.

Acting Detective Inspector Wade Lee said police would allege the child’s injuries were “consistent with what is commonly known as a child shake injury”.

He said the delay in charges being laid were due to “complexities” around the death of a child.

“The investigation itself has been a meticulous investigation that will largely rely upon medical evidence,” he said.

Lee confirmed the man arrested was a family member but would not confirm if he was the child’s father.

The child’s mother has assisted police with the investigation, he said.

Lee confirmed the baby was known to child safety.

The man was due to face Bundaberg Magistrates Court Monday morning and Lee said police would be objecting to bail.

He thanked the community for their support with the investigation.
