Week-long soaking coming for millions
South-east Queensland is in for a soaking this week, as easterly winds and an inland trough push inland rain toward the coast.
Weekly totals of up to 150mm for Brisbane, and up to 170mm on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, are forecast with the capital also set for chillier-than-normal temperatures this week.
South-east Queensland is bracing for a week of wet weather. Windy
The Bureau of Meteorology says there’s a medium to high chance of rain every day through to the weekend, with the biggest potential falls coming on Thursday.
Potential thunderstorms for Brisbane are also forecast from Wednesday afternoon through to Thursday morning.
Today, the Bureau has forecast “isolated and scattered” showers in the south-east, while other showers and storms are predicted in the interior.
The Sunshine Coast Airport, however, has received over 45mm of rain since midnight.
Coolangatta, Maroochydore, Redcliffe, and Noosa Heads are all set to cop up to 45mm of rain today, with predictions of 40 degree falls in other locations.
The rainband is likely to linger until early next week.
No warnings have yet been issued for Queensland, but residents are urged to keep an eye on the BoM website for updates, with concerns around road safety and flash flooding.
Queenslanders last week were urged to prepare their emergency kits with the severe storm season kicking off.
“Severe weather can develop quickly and threaten lives and property,” BoM senior meteorologist Laura Boekel said.
“You can reduce the impact of severe weather by getting ready now before it happens.”
