Brisbane man on murder charge over hit-run

A man has been charged with murdering a Brisbane doctor by deliberately running him down and leaving him for dead.

Father-of-three Peter Dunne, 53, died in Princess Alexandra Hospital on Sunday, about six weeks after he was struck during a pre-dawn jog at Tarragindi on February 18.

The driver fled, leaving the doctor with critical head injuries on the side of the road.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said on Friday police will allege it was a "deliberate act", rather than a hit-and-run accident.

He said the driver and the victim had previously "crossed paths" but refused to elaborate on their relationship.

"We will be alleging that the offender deliberately and wilfully struck the victim with his vehicle," he said.

"We will be alleging that he deliberately aimed his vehicle at the victim and ran him down."

The 32-year-old Tarragindi man was charged on Thursday with murder, failing to remain at the scene, and showing callous disregard by failing to assist the injured man.

He's also facing a charge of unlicensed driving.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
