Car seen smashing into side of bus in new CCTV

Dramatic new vision has emerged of the moment an airborne car speared the side of a bus in Brisbane last week.
The fresh CCTV video from 6.30pm on Wednesday, July 29, shows a blue Toyota Yaris mounting a median strip at a busy Rocklea intersection and piercing the Brisbane City Council bus at speed, becoming wedged inside.

The Toyota Yaris could be seen hanging with its back in midair and its front wedged inside the bus, as the larger vehicle eventually drove off displaying a “sorry, not in service” message.
It is understood the driver of the Yaris swerved to avoid another vehicle, the driver of which has since been fined.
Two people were on the bus at the time, the 66-year-old driver Charles and his wife Angela.
“Oh ----, oh ----,” Angela could be heard saying in security footage from on board the bus.
“OK, I’m going to be in trouble because I’m on the bus, aren’t I?”
Charles rushed to help the driver out of her car and onto the bus.
“Here, sit up here, you sit here, take a seat,” he said to the woman.
The bus had been returning to the depot in Sherwood at the time of the crash.
It is understood the driver was in breach of bus driving protocol for having his wife on the bus.
However, Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner instead labelled Charles a hero and said his actions to help the Yaris driver were admirable.
“It’s not something that should’ve happened, but I guess given the circumstances, we’ll let that one go through the keeper,” Schrinner said.
“Charles has a great record of driving with Brisbane City Council, he’s had a lot of commendations from members of the public.”
The bus driver is currently waiting on medical clearance to return to work.
