A two-year-old boy is fighting for life after suffering burns to 90 per cent of his body in a Queensland house fire.

Austin Cotterill underwent surgery on Thursday at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane after suffering burns to his legs, arms and stomach in the blaze, which gutted his family's home at Eidsvold, southwest of Bundaberg.

Austin's father, Steven, said surgeons had told him the toddler's burns were the worst they had seen, but added his son was fighter.

"I just know that he is going to come out and I just can't wait until he starts walking and playing around again," he told the Seven Network on Thursday.

Austin's mother, Mandy, said her daughter Shelby raised the alarm when the fire broke out on Tuesday night.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Austin's family.

Authorities are investigating whether the blaze was sparked by a candle.
