Alleged online sex killers face court

A prostitute and her unemployed partner accused of murdering a Gold Coast man after luring him with an online advertisement for sex have faced court.

Peta Lorang-Goubran, 33, and her partner Mark Dayney, 28, have both been remanded in custody after a brief appearance at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The pair have been charged with the murder of Gold Coast man Mark Emanuel Spencer, who was found beaten to death at his Coomera home on October 1.

Dayney was brought to the court first, blowing a kiss to supporters as he was led from the dock with one of those in attendance telling him to keep his "chin up".

The court heard Dayney was on bail when accused of participating in the murder, though his lawyer Eric Halden said the breach of bail charge against his client would be contested.

Lorang-Goubran wept in the dock during her brief appearance.

The pair were arrested on Wednesday, with police alleging they used an advertisement for sex on classified website Craigslist to identify robbery targets.

Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said Mr Spencer, 37, had replied to the advertisement before sustaining severe head injuries in what police have described as a targeted attack.

A friend of Mr Spencer, Tim Stewart, was in the court and said it had been tough to face the father-of-two's alleged killers.

"(I'm) very angry," Mr Stewart told reporters when asked to describe his emotions.

"He (Mr Spencer) was a great person, beautiful kids, and he'll be truly missed.

"We know this is the start of a very long process."

The matter will return to court on February 20.
