Police divers search for Qld murder weapon

Police divers are searching for a weapon used in the alleged murder of a central Queensland man in a Gladstone unit this week.

The search in a nearby parkland area started after Anthony Lee Smits, 29, appeared in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with murder, robbery with violence and fraud.

Smits, who is accused of stabbing associate Andrew Vesey-Brown in the chest after an argument, was remanded in custody and his case adjourned until September 4.

Police charged him on Tuesday after Mr Vesey-Brown, 23, died in hospital on Monday night as a result of his injuries in an altercation.

Detective Acting Inspector Paul Elliot indicated more arrests may be made and confirmed police were interviewing "numerous" people.

"We still have a lot of people to speak to, and in particular we are going to be conducting a search this afternoon with the assistance of the Brisbane water police," he said in Gladstone.

Det Act Insp Elliot said police had ruled out any links between Mr Vesey-Brown's death and a nearby meth lab.
