$1b Gold Coast hotel construction underway

Construction has started on a $1 billion Gold Coast hotel development that is tipped to boost the glitter strip's high-end tourism market.

Acting Premier Jackie Trad says the Jewel development in Surfers Paradise, to be opened in early 2019, will provide 2,700 jobs during construction and 500 ongoing jobs.

"It distinguishes the Gold Coast and Queensland as a place for luxury tourism right across the world," Ms Trad said.
