$16.5bn Carmichael coal mine a step closer

The Queensland government is a step closer to granting global resources giant Adani a mining lease for its $16.5 billion Carmichael coal mine in the state's Galilee Basin.

State Development Minister Anthony Lynham told parliament on Wednesday that Adani had reached an agreement with all landholders and his department was awaiting confirmation that the agreement could be filed.

"Once that occurs I will be able to consider the application for the mining leases in the same way as for any other project," Dr Lynham said.
