Women promoted in Qld reshuffle

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has promoted women in a ministerial reshuffle to prime them for future cabinet positions.

The Liberal National Party has been criticised for its lack of female representation, with only two women out of a total of 18 ministers.

Lisa France will move from her role assisting Mines Minister Andrew Cripps to become the assistant minister for finance.

Deb Frecklington will move from assistant minister for finance to assistant minister to the premier, to focus on the upcoming G20.

Premier Campbell Newman stopped short of guaranteeing the MPs cabinet positions after the next election.

"I want to see women advanced in my team, in high leadership positions," he said.

"This is about developing their skills as future cabinet ministers.

"It's important that women in my team be given opportunities to have experience of the central agencies of government, and see how the treasury and premier's department work."

While Dr Davis' role of assistant minister for health has been scrapped, Pine Rivers MP Seath Holswich will enter the ministry as the assistant mines minister.
