Qantas plane forced to make emergency landing in Brisbane

A Qantas flight has made an emergency landing in Brisbane after a mid-air mechanical issue, just days after a similar incident in Melbourne.

Flight QF123 bound for Auckland began experiencing problems around 20 minutes after its departure from Brisbane Airport just before 9am today.

It’s believed a mechanical issue caused one of the aircraft’s engines to vibrate.

The pilot decided to turn the plane around and return to the airport, where emergency services were waiting.

Witnesses told 9NEWS one of the A330’s engines was “completely silent” as the plane made its descent.

“We could hear one of the engines was shut off, it was making a whirring noise,” plane spotter James Saunders said.

QF123 landed without issue, with all passengers and crew disembarking safely.

Today’s incident after another Qantas plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Melbourne after an air conditioning issue.
