Sydney primary school damaged by fire just days before start of new school year

With the start of the new school year only days away, part of a primary school in Sydney’s inner west has been destroyed by fire.

More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze at St Brigid’s Primary School in Marrickville last night after receiving calls about a strong smoke smell just before 10pm.

No one is believed to have been injured, however there is understood to be extensive damage to the library, where the roof collapsed.

Police are investigating but the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.
