Police warn against dangerous driving ahead of Easter long weekend

Queensland Police is urging road users to stay safe this Easter holiday period with road related deaths and injuries expected to climb.

Police have shared footage of several drivers travelling recklessly on roads, endangering themselves and others.

One video shows a driver towing a caravan cutting off and overtaking another vehicle, narrowly avoiding them in tight traffic.

In another recorded incident, a driver is seen towing a caravan and speeding past another vehicle, before swerving and losing control on the road.

The caravan starts to tip before capsizing, causing the car to roll over and skid off the highway.

Last year, six people died on Queensland roads over the Easter long weekend.

Police Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus urged people and families to travel safely and to plan their trips ahead of time.

"We know everyone is eager to get to their holiday destinations, but it's important to ensure everyone is driving to the conditions and avoiding driving tired," he said.

"There will be increased traffic on our roads, all throughout the state.

"Travelling can mean driving on unfamiliar roads and through a variety of environments and weather. Day or night-time, ensure you drive to the conditions."

Police have established Operation Uniform Easter, increasing their presence on Queensland roads.

"One life lost is too many," Assistant Commissioner Marcus said.

"Help us make sure there is no dampener on this holiday period for you or your loved ones."
