Elderly man brutally assaulted flown to Brisbane for treatment

The 90-year-old man seriously injured in a violent home invasion has been flown to Brisbane for emergency surgery.

Childers man Doug Dilger was airlifted out of Bundaberg last night with a specialist team of intensive care doctors and paramedics.

He will undergo surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital today after sustaining a broken jaw, fractured eye socket and serious head injuries in the horrific attack in his own home on Friday night. 

The well known local man was cooking dinner when a man with a skin-coloured stocking over his face burst through an unlocked back door, punching him in the head several times and demanding cash he knew Mr Dilger had.

Police have few leads to go by, only a rough description of the attacker who they say is between 30-40 years of age and possibly had a foreign accent.

Police have described the offender as between "30-40 years old with a foreign accent".
