Police praise grand final fans

Police say they are generally pleased with the behaviour of Sunday night's record NRL grand final crowd at Homebush.

More than 83,000 people crammed into ANZ Stadium to see the Rabbitohs defeat the Bulldogs.

Eight people were refused entry to the premiership decider, while 19 were ejected from the ground for offences including drunkenness and rowdy behaviour.

Four others were arrested and dealt with by police for matters such as entering the field and swearing. They were also issued banning notices.

A group of nine people were moved on for their behaviour outside the stadium.

Detective Superintendent Peter Lennon said the fact so few among so many came to police notice was pleasing.

"The behaviour and patience displayed by the majority of people made this a largely incident-free event in what was a capacity crowd enjoying the footy," he said.
