Police investigate following unit fire in Sydney's south-west

A unit block has been evacuated and an investigation is underway after a fire broke out in Sydney's south-west early this morning.

Emergency services were called to a unit block on Northcote Street, Canterbury just after 1.45am following reports of a fire.

Residents are reported to have extinguished most of the blaze prior to the arrival of firefighters, before leaving the premises themselves. 

Firefighters managed to keep the fire contained to the common area of the unit block. No injuries have been reported.

Police believe the cause of the fire to be suspicious and have established a crime scene.
