More than 100 Victorian inmates set to be charged over riots

More than 100 current and former inmates who took part in a wild prison riot in June, which caused at least $12 million in damage, will be charged with serious sabotage and rioting offences.
A smoking ban inside Victorian jails slated for July 1 led to around 300 inmates wreaking havoc inside Ravenhall Prison.
Inmates broke into staff areas, smashed doors, walls and fences, and ruined the fire alarm and heating systems.
Police swooped on a series of properties across Melbourne at 4am today and targeted 13 inmates who have since been freed from jail.
Police said the operation resulted from more than 300 witness statements, with more than 100 rioting inmates identified by Task Force Gallium.
The men were interviewed in relation to riot and damage related offences, including sabotage, and were charged late today with charges imminent for a further 100 inmates.
Identified rioters who remain behind bars have been summoned to appear in court in January.
