Peter Brock's Holden touring car on the verge of $235,000 sale
The 1991 VN Group A touring car driven by Australian motor racing legend Peter Brock is on the verge of being sold after it went under the hammer on the weekend.
The famous vehicle played a significant role in Australian motorsport and the Australian Touring Car Championship.
Lloyds Auctioneers and Valuers say after competitive bidding, the final bid reached $235,000 and negotiations are underway to finalise the sale.
Peter Brock, who died in 2004, is an icon in Australian motorsport.
His extraordinary career spanned three decades, during which he secured nine Bathurst 1000 victories among countless other accolades.
The 1991 VN Group A touring car is one of the iconic vehicles that Brock piloted during his career.
It is a true collector's item, according to Lloyds Auctioneers and Valuers.
Built in 1991 by Perkins Engineering, the car made its racing debut at the Sandown track in Melbourne that year.
The car was converted to the new "V8 formula" as a VP Commodore complete with a new engine in 1992.
It went on to compete in the famous Bathurst race as the "Quix Food Store" car, which finished fifth that year.
The showroom floor price for the road car version of the 1990 HSV VN SS Group A Commodore when it was first released was a little more than $30,000, now its estimated to be worth seven times that.
Even so, it was a high price back in the '90s, reflecting the car's exclusivity.
Only 302 vehicles were built, making it a rare and highly soughtafter model.
Lloyds said the auction attracted significant interest from collectors, motorsport enthusiasts, and investors.
"The 1991 VN Group A touring car is more than just a car; it's a symbol of Australian racing excellence and Peter Brock's enduring legacy," said Lee Hames, chief operations officer for Lloyds Auctions.
The 1991 VN Group A touring car was among more than 200 other Australian, European and American classic cars going under the hammer on Saturday, August 31.
