Passenger 'zoned out' causing him to slip between train and platform

Quick-thinking train passengers have helped save a fellow commuter who became stuck between a train carriage and platform in Perth.

TAFE student, Ish, was stepping off a train at Stirling Station this morning when his foot slipped through the small gap, trapping his leg. 

The 21-year-old has told 9News he “zoned out”. 

“(Other passengers) were fast about it, pressed the emergency button and stopped the train,” Ish said.

The passengers then waved their hands between the doors so the train wouldn’t start moving. 

It took more than 30 minutes to free the 21-year-old, with firefighters having to remove the rubber step. 

It’s the same station where dozens of passengers were filmed pushing a 90 tonne train off a trapped man’s leg in 2014. 

Footage of that heroic rescue went viral. 

Ish suffered minor leg injury, and wants the platform gap to be made smaller to ensure no one else goes through his ordeal.
