Angry scenes as WA kangaroo killer jailed

Supporters of a man who tortured and killed a kangaroo have attacked the media outside a West Australian court.

Dylan Leslie Griffin, 22, became the third of four men to be sentenced for his role in brutal attacks on two kangaroos after he pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges late last year.

Griffin was given an 11-month jail term on Monday for punching a kangaroo with knuckle dusters and then shooting it in the eye.

He was granted a 25 per cent discount for an early guilty plea and he will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentence.

A one month sentence for possessing knuckle dusters will be served concurrently.

Angry scenes followed outside Joondalup Court as Griffin's supporters clashed with media.

One man shattered a TV camera while another had to be physically restrained.

Griffin was one of four Perth men aged between 22 and 28 charged by police after mobile phone footage was found of brutal attacks on two kangaroos.

One marsupial was burnt, shot with a firearm, spat on, kicked and held while punched with knuckle dusters.

Another kangaroo was stabbed more than 20 times and then kicked in the head.
