Perth man jailed for attacking grandmother's car

A Perth man has been jailed after showering a grandmother in broken glass when he punched her car window on a highway.

Anwar Hautapu was in the passenger seat when the Holden Astra he was travelling in pulled alongside the 56-year-old woman in Cockburn, in Perth's south, last October, the Cockburn Gazette reports.

Hautapu leaned out of the window, yelled abuse at the woman and threw something at her car as he drove past.

He then stopped in front of her, prompting the woman, identified only as Lynn, to pull out her phone and start filming.

In the footage, Hautapu can be seen leaving his car and walking towards Lynn’s, swearing and apparently throwing an item at the windscreen.

The grandmother screams in terror just before her window is smashed, showering her in glass that became lodged in her arm.

Hautapu allegedly grabbed the woman and told her to hand over her phone, which had fallen to the ground in the chaos.

"He kept yelling at me to give him the phone, but by then I'd thrown it onto the floor of the car," Lynn told the Cockburn Gazette.

"I don't think he was hitting me but he was trying to grab me. I was leaning as far away from him as I could."

Hautapu was sentenced to 10 months jail yesterday for assault occasioning bodily harm and criminal damage.

He will be eligible for parole in five months.
