CCTV captures dogs leaping at baby, attacking labradoodle in Perth suburb

Council officers are investigating after a dog leaped at a baby and a beloved pet was attacked in a Perth neighbourhood.

Mother Nicole Filar was walking through Doubleview on Monday with her eight-month-old son, Leo, strapped to her chest when a bull mastiff and a Staffordshire terrier approached.

CCTV footage of the attack appears to show one dog repeatedly leaping up at Leo's face before Kiki, Filar's labradoodle, is pounced on by the other dog.

"They started circling us and then all of a sudden one of the dogs is jumping up at my son, who's in the carrier attached to me, and then the other dog has pinned my dog to the ground," Filar told 9News.

"And I just started screaming for help and becoming hysterical because I couldn't help either of them."

As the ordeal dragged on, bystanders on Beatrice Street intervened to try to save Kiki, kicking at the other dogs.

"It's obviously your child that you try and protect. But it was just horrendous to have to be in that position with the two of them," Filar said.

She said Leo fortunately only suffered a few scratches to his face but was thinking of how much worse it could have been.

Dog attacks in the City of Stirling can bring fines of up to $10,000 — double that for a dangerous dog — or $3000 if no physical injury is caused.

Owner Gloria Fryer said she was surprised and sorry about the attack.

She said the dogs "have not been trained properly" and are not walked because she wasn't able to.

City of Sterling council officers are reviewing the CCTV.
