Pensioner brutally assaulted in random supermarket attack

Pensioner Annette was walking home from her local shops in the Victorian seaside town of Mornington when a woman allegedly attacked her at random.

The 66-year-old is still bearing black eyes from the brutal assault, which happened just over a week ago.

She went to the supermarket but realised her pension hadn't come through so started walking home with the intention of returning later in the day.

Annette only got a short distance down Robertson Drive when a woman rushed at her, hit her, pulled her hair and continued to beat her in broad daylight while the pensioner lay unconscious.

Her alleged attacker fled but police arrested a 48-year-old woman shortly after the incident.

She has been charged and bailed, which locals aren't happy about.

"What will she do next?" one shopkeeper said to 9NEWS.

Having returned home from the Alfred Hospital, Annette told 9NEWS she is angry. 

"I'm so angry, I want to come after her. No place you can hide," she said.
