Sydney man unable to escape assassins twice in seven months

The victim of a shooting in Sydney's west today was the target of a failed assassination attempt earlier this year.

Jae Tregear, 31, was rushed to hospital this afternoon after being gunned down in his car outside a home on Barber Avenue in Penrith just after 3pm.

He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

Police believe the crime could be gang-related as the victim is known to have connections to the Rebels and Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Vision from the crime scene shows a trail of blood on a footpath next to a white dual-cab ute with the door still open.

Police have located a burnt-out car which they believe was used to flee the shooting. A crime scene has been established and investigations are underway.

In April of this year Tregear was the victim of another brazen daylight attack, when two masked men in black clothing opened fire as he arrived at a home on Valencia Street, in Caddens, near Penrith.

The men fled the scene in a stolen black Mercedes A45 coupe. Drawing parallels to today's attack, the car was located on fire just before 3pm on Friend Street, Merrylands.

At the time, police released CCTV of one of the men involved in the shooting, which showed him darting across the street, firing shots, before fleeing on foot.

"The fact that none of the shots managed to impact upon the intended target, I can't explain how it didn't happen," NSW Police detective superintendent Brett McFadden told reporters in April.
