A world of bits and bytes is helping teachers bring better dance and drama to students right around Australia.

The Sydney Opera House has finished a two-year trial of digital learning programs that connect students, teachers and families to arts professionals.

These included theatre workshops, professional development for teachers, arts career planning opportunities for students, and performances and tours.

Digital learning expert Stephen Heppell said the "fab" project had opened up a whole world for communities connecting with the Opera House and with each other.

"It's really nice that creativity and ingenuity and imagination has a place in a world of wires and bits and bytes," he told AAP.

It continued a 30,000-year tradition in Australia of swapping cultures and stories, the English professor said.

The Opera House will continue to run and expand the eight programs.
