One dead after 'explosion' at Sydney home

A woman is dead after an explosion was reported at a house in western Sydney.

Police are investigating the incident, which started a large fire at the property on Samarai Road in Whalan about 9.45am (AEST) on Friday.

Emergency services found the woman's body inside the home.

Her age was not immediately known and police are due to give more details at a press conference at midday.

"We got reports of an explosion but I can't give any more details than that," a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman told AAP.

Samarai Road was closed for much of Friday morning.
