Olympian’s wife arrested after return to Australia
The wife of a former Olympic gold medallist swimmer Neil Brooks has been arrested after landing in Western Australia.
Linda Brooks - now known as Elle - was arrested at the end of last week after returning from Bali, and police have said she faces allegations involving fraud totalling $1.95 million.
Neil Brooks, part of the Mean Machine relay swim team that won gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, is believed to still be in Bali.
Linda Brooks is now set to be extradited to Queensland and has been granted bail.
Police will not escort her to Queensland but she has been ordered to reappear of her own volition in Queensland on November 13.
A Current Affair has investigated the Brooks since 2009, even travelling to the US and Europe to do so.
The program previously assisted Queensland police by handing over information obtained in that investigation.
A warrant for Neil Brooks's arrest remains open.
Detective Inspector Melissa Anderson said Linda Brooks was expected to face a fraud charge.
"Police will be alleging that she was a director of a sports manufacturing company that made false representations in relation to that financial venture, inducing a person to purchase a 50 percent share of the company," she said.
"We will be alleging that the victim lost $1.95 million in an investment."
