Man charged after indecently assaulting female police officer on NSW train

A man has been charged after he allegedly indecently assaulted an off-duty police officer during an outburst on a NSW train last night.

It's alleged a 60-year-old man, who was on a train travelling between Hornsby and Woy Woy, touched the female officer inappropriately after she tried to speak to him about his abusive behaviour towards other commuters around 7.15pm.

Police say two male passengers intervened but were also assaulted by the man, who allegedly tried to bite and punch two Sydney Trains officers as they tried to restrain him.

The man bit the off-duty policewoman and again indecently assaulted her as he was detained, police say.

He has been charged with 12 offences including two counts of assault with act of indecency and assaulting a police officer in execution of their duty.

The 60-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on January 24.
