Obese babies join fight to lose weight
Two morbidly obese Colombian babies – who tip the scales at a combined 41kgs – have come together in an effort to lose weight and save their lives.
The 10-month-olds, Santiago Mendoza and Isabela Caidedo, are undergoing a special weight loss program with the help of the Colombian charity 'Chubby Hearts'.
Santiago's mother, Eunice Fandino, handed her son over to the charity earlier this year after his weight skyrocketed to 19kgs.
His battle with obesity made headlines around the world, and inspired Isabela's mother, Niyered Martinez, to reach out to the foundation for help.
Now the tots are fighting their battle against the bulge together. The foundation's director, Dr Salvador Palacio, says he's happy with their progress.
"We hope with six to eight months using a special diet the babies could be down to a normal weight," he said.
