Sydney man charged over massive meth haul

Methamphetamine worth more than $15 million has been found packed inside the doors of a fridge in Darwin, leading to the arrest of a Sydney man.

More than 20 kilograms of the drug was found by customs officials in a Darwin port on November 19 and delivered to a depot in Sydney on November 27 in a controlled operation by a national taskforce.

The 51-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly taking the drugs to a Georges Hall home, where a police raid uncovered fraudulent documents, another three kilograms of methamphetamine and $6,700 in cash.

He is expected to appear in Sydney Central Local Court on Wednesday charged with importing and attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.

"This was a complex operation and involved a great level of coordination from the time the drugs were intercepted in Darwin to being traced through to Sydney where the arrest has been made," Australian Federal Police spokesman Mark Setter said.
