A woman has been pulled barely conscious from waters north of Sydney after falling from rocks into the ocean.

Two members of the public jumped into the ocean at Avoca Beach when they saw the woman, aged in her 50's, fall into the water on Saturday afternoon.

The two people held her head above water until an local surf life saver pulled the her from the water on a jetski and brought her to shore where she was given oxygen and taken to hospital.

It is understood the woman was watching her husband rock fish, and while it was determined she had swallowed a lot of water, she is expected to make a full recovery.
