Toddler who loves IGA dreams come true after local store named after him

Jensen Jones, who is two, almost three, loves grocery shopping.

He and his mum Kristy are regulars at IGA Lugarno; Jensen such a regular, and such a good customer, that today the suburban supermarket was renamed Jensen's.

"Every day he'll find an excuse to come up", says Kristy.

"Everyone knows us, and he knows everyone. He pretends to play IGA at home, so he always talks about working at IGA when he grows up."

It would be the family sick with winter flu, that would fire up Jensen's love for his favourite store.

"He couldn't leave the house, and he asked me to make a paper IGA," says Kristy.

Jensen's passion was such that mum would build him a mini checkout at home, garnered with advertising bunting and stickers sent from his mates at IGA.

But the crew at the Lugarno store decided to go one better.

So today, when Jensen rolled up for his usual pitstop, the store advertising had been rebadged "Jensen's IGA", and store owner Sam Alikozay was there to present him with a company shirt and name badge.

And from there, Jensen would jump behind the till, and start serving.

While there was some initial difficulty working out the scales, Jensen was fully across finding the bar codes to scan.

"Cash or card?" he would ask.

Jensen would also enquire if customers were in need of a receipt, before wishing them a good day on their departure.

He would cruise the aisles for spills, help with the facing up - the industry description for making sure all the product labels are front and centre - and even got a peak at the previously forbidden loading dock.

And when his shift ended, Jensen was presented with his own mini trolley, and mini checkout, which he quickly filled with his favourte produce, mushrooms, before heading home beneath the sign that carried his name.
