Toll increases coming into effect tonight, NSW government warns

New South Wales motorists have been warned that tolls will increase this week due to an agreement made by the former state government.

Newly elected Premier Chris Minns says that the Labor government is still committed to toll caps despite the previously agreed contract made by the Perrottet government and Transurban.

The contract will take effect from midnight tonight.

The agreement comes into effect on April 1 and includes quarterly increases on the following toll roads:

• Hills M2
• Lane Cove Tunnel
• Eastern Distributor
• Cross City tunnel
• M5 South-West
• Northconnex

The increases come as the Minns Government begin preparations to roll out its toll reform and relief plan.

"Every time the tolls go up, it's a reminder of the former Government's obsession with privatisation," Minns said in a statement.

"Labor's toll cap will be in addition to existing toll relief measures, and will deliver much-needed relief for tens of thousands of drivers each week."

The toll relief plan will introduce a $60 per week toll cap and will perform a review of the admin fees paid by New South Wales motorists.

The plan will also see an overhaul of the current toll network and will publish the 'secret toll contracts' signed by the Perrottet Government.
