Three arrested in Newcastle drug crackdown

Three men have been arrested near Newcastle as police continue to dismantle a drug network in the area.

Raids were carried out on Friday at Cameron Park, Speers Point and Cardiff in Lake Macquarie, where 19 firearms, including high powered rifles, were seized, as well as 4700 ecstasy pills, around 40 grams of methylamphetamine and a clandestine lab.

Two men, aged 33 and 25, have been charged with multiple drug offences and directing a criminal syndicate.

A 46-year-old man has been charged with 13 firearms offences.

The raids follow the arrest of eleven men in recent months.

Detective Inspector Peter Mahon said these arrests are a significant step in stopped the supply of illicit drugs and firearms in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland areas.

"Our officers will continue to investigate those who take part in the supply of drugs and more arrests will follow," Det Insp Mahon said.
