$70k worth of Lego stolen in Australia

Lego bandits in NSW and Victoria have stolen more than $70,000 worth of the prized building blocks in a series of lucrative heists aided by power tools.

The thieves are targeting the pricier Lego Technic and City Lego series while leaving behind the Duplo sets and boxes which retail for less than $15, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Police believe the bandits are selling the pilfered toys online or at local markets.

Five toy stores in northern NSW and Victoria have been robbed, including Lismore's Toy Kingdom that has been hit twice.

"After the first robbery we ¬improved our security," Toy Kingdom owner Carey Horner said.

"The fact he had a grinder ready to go to punch out the locks shows he was well ¬prepared."

In the most recent robbery at Toy Kingdom last month thieves made off with $20,000 worth of the sought-after bricks, using a trolley to transport the boxes of Lego.

NSW Police said they are investigating links between the robberies in NSW and Victoria.
