Popular Sydney beach forced to shut over second shark sighting

Australia Day beachgoers have been ordered out of the water at a popular location on Sydney's Northern Beaches after a shark was spotted for the second time today.
Surf lifesavers sounded the alarm and ordered an evacuation over a shark off Manly Beach about 11.25 am.
The beach was shut, just over an hour after it had reopened following an earlier scare.

It was reopened about 12.40pm.
There were also shark sightings at Dee Why Beach, Palm Beach and Whale Beach today.
The beaches were all shut and then reopened late this morning.
The state has been on edge following four shark attacks within 48 hours from January 18, which claimed the life of 12-year-old Nico Antic.
He had been jumping from some rocks when he was mauled by a suspected bull shark near Shark Beach in Vaucluse.

Andre De Ruyter, 27, is in hospital recovering from another suspected bull shark attack while surfing at the North Steyne stretch of Manly Beach.
Manly Beach was also forced to close over the weekend due to a shark sighting.
Surf Lifesaving has increased drone surveillance and deployed extra rescue crews to keep people safe over the long weekend.
