Sydney Harbour Bridge chaos after three injured in two-car crash

Three people have been injured in a serious crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge which shut three of four northbound lanes ahead of peak hour.

All lanes have since reopened but traffic remains heavy on the approach to the bridge and much of the inner-city road network after the collision at the city end of the bridge just after 2pm.

A southbound lane was also shut.

The Transport Management Centre urged drivers to prepare significant delays.

“Traffic heading towards the Harbour Bridge is heavy from the Anzac Bridge, as well as on the Cahill Expressway over Circular Quay and through the Domain Tunnel,” it said.

“Some buses heading out of the city are delayed by up to 20 minutes.

“Motorists and bus passengers are advised to allow extra travel time until traffic conditions return to normal.”

NSW Ambulance said three people in one of the two cars was taken to hospital.

The 72-year-old driver was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with chest injuries.

The front seat passenger, a 76-year-old woman, was taken to the same hospital with suspect spinal injuries.

The back seat passenger, an 88-year-old woman, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with chest injuries.

The driver of the other car was assessed at scene but not taken to hospital.

NSW Police told nine.com.au it responded to reports of a crash at about 2.15pm and three people were being treated for various injuries.

An investigation into what caused the crash is now under way.
