Police in Sydney have charged a man they describe as the ringleader of an organised criminal network with soliciting and conspiracy to murder two men.

An investigation that began in September last year found the leader of an organised criminal network was allegedly responsible for soliciting the murder of a 27-year-old man who had defected from the group, as well as conspiring to murder one of his associates in Kogarah Bay in August.

As a result, authorities arrested and charged six people across the state yesterday, executing search warrants across Sydney.

During the searches, large amounts of cash and a white powder product were found.

The ringleader of the gang, a 32-year-old man, was arrested at a Croydon Park house; he was taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with multiple offences.

These include conspiring and agreeing to murder, soliciting, encouraging and persuading to murder, and recruiting a child to carry out or assist criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today.

A man and a woman, both aged 34, were arrested in Austral in Sydney's south-west, and were taken to Liverpool Police Station.

Two other men, a 34-year-old and a 40-year-old, were arrested in Lidcombe and Merrylands respectively, where they were given multiple charges, and were refused bail to appear in court today.

Police also arrested a 23-year-old man at Wagga Wagga Police Station in the state's south, where he was hit with multiple charges, including possessing an unregistered pistol and reckless wounding in company.
