A 12-year-old boy has managed to flee from a man who grabbed him in Sydney's east, after being approached twice in four days.

Police say the boy was first approached in Matraville on Friday afternoon and again in Malabar on Monday afternoon.

On the first incident, the man followed the boy and tried to talk to him, but the youngster ran home and alerted his mother.

Four days later, the same man grabbed the boy as he walked home from school, but police say the boy was able to pull away, dropped his bag and fled.

The man is described as Caucasian, aged in his 60s with pale skin with red blotches on his face and arms, and is bald.

He was wearing cream shorts with a pale pink t-shirt, long white socks with woollen gloves.
