Standing Ovation for Sydney-based cruiser

As the $1.3 billion Ovation of the Seas cruised into her new homeport for summer, NSW is set to receive the flow-on of millions of dollars into its economy.

Measuring nearly 350 metres long, the fourth-largest ship in the world berthed at Sydney's Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay at dawn on Thursday.

The ship is expected to inject more than $3.3 million into the local economy in passenger spending alone, while her maiden Australian season is expected to inject more than $35 million into the national economy, according to Royal Caribbean.

Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said "NSW continues to grab the lion's share of the country's $3.6 billion cruise dollar, with 67 per cent of Australia's cruise revenue generated in this state".

Carrying 6500 passengers and crew, the 168,666 tonne vessel will stay docked in the Harbour city for the next two days before departing for New Zealand.
