Man jailed over one-punch attack in Sydney

One-punch attacker Daniel Angelos has been hit with a jail term of more than three years for his unprovoked Sydney CBD assault on Simon Cramp.

Mr Cramp was left fighting for his life in hospital following the attack last year.

Angelos, 24, was found guilty of reckless grievous bodily harm in July and sentenced at Campbelltown Local Court to a maximum of three years and four months on Wednesday.

Witnesses told the court during Angelos's trial that Mr Cramp's head bounced on the pavement after being struck.

Despite his recovery from his injuries, Mr Cramp still faces health complications from the assault.

He questioned Angelos's contrition on Wednesday.

"He did say he was sorry, but it was hard to believe it," Mr Cramp said outside court.

Angelos never denied throwing the punch that knocked Mr Cramp to the ground outside a McDonald's restaurant in the early hours of June 3, 2013.

The blow caused his then 26-year-old victim to smack his head on the footpath, leaving him fighting for life in St Vincent's Hospital.

During his two-week trial, Angelos claimed he was so drunk and high on ecstasy while out celebrating his birthday that he "blacked out" and couldn't remember hitting Mr Cramp.

"I have a memory of being pulled away. Like, going backwards. And after that I remember being in a taxi," Angelos said.

It was only after he spotted CCTV footage of himself on the news that he handed himself in to police.

With time served, Angelos could be free in August next year.
