Shark sighted off Sydney's Bondi beach

A 2.5-metre shark has been shepherded to deeper waters after being spotted at Bondi Beach.

No shark alarm was sounded at Sydney's famous beach because the shark was a fair distance from shore but surfers were warned as a precaution, a Bondi Lifeguards spokeswoman told AAP on Tuesday.

The sighting was reported by the Surf Life Saving helicopter just after midday and the Bondi Lifeguards responded by sending a jet ski to warn surfers.

The shark has since left the area.
