SES gets 600 calls for storm help in NSW

NSW emergency services has received almost 600 calls for help in the past 24 hours as wild weather lashes Sydney and other parts of the state.

The NSW State Emergency Service said it had fielded around 590 calls over the past day, mostly from residents in Sydney's north, which has copped heavy rain since Tuesday.

SES spokesman Phil Campbell said it had received reports of flash flooding and leaking roofs in the area, but not any relating to significant property damage.

"We've been quite lucky, there's not been much wind with this weather system," Mr Campbell told AAP.

He didn't expect a "particularly busy" day in Sydney, with the wild weather across the metro area forecast to ease.

The Bureau of Meteorology is tipping showers to ease in Sydney on Wednesday, and is forecasting a top temperature of 23C.

Mr Campbell said there had also been some flooding in the state's northeast, especially near Coffs Harbour.

"It's the Orara river, just west of Coffs (Harbour), but it's only minor flooding," he said.

He said storms in the northeast corner of the state, near Tamworth and Armidale, had resulted in falling tree branches.
