Security strengthened at NSW courts

Security is being boosted at court houses across NSW, as part of the state government's counter-terrorism response.

Around 40 new Sheriff Officers will start training on Monday and are set to work in Sydney and regional areas including Wagga Wagga, Wollongong, Tamworth and Taree.

Attorney-General Gabrielle Upton said nearly $5.2 million will be spent to ensure the safety of those who work within the courts.

"The safety of those who work at or attend our courts is critical," Ms Upton said in a statement on Monday.

After five weeks of training, the 40 recruits will help strengthen security at key courthouses at a time when the National Terrorism Public Alert is at high.
