Search for body in waters off Sydney beach

Surf lifesavers are struggling in treacherous conditions searching the waters off Sydney's Maroubra Beach after reports that a body had possibly been spotted.

A helicopter and two jet skis were deployed in the choppy waters after swimmers reported seeing what they thought was a body at 8am on Wednesday.

The search is focused on the north end of the beach but strong winds and the rough surf is affecting visibility.
