Scooter rider flees crash site injured

A scooter rider seriously injured in a crash with a car was found lying in the grounds of a school after fleeing the crash site in Sydney's east.

The scooter collided with a car at the intersection of Bronte Road and Carrington Street in Waverley about 4am on Sunday.

Witnesses told police the scooter rider abandoned his vehicle and left the area before he was found with serious injuries in the grounds of a nearby school before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital in an unknown condition.

The male driver of the car and a female passenger were not injured.
